The Journal of Nursing and Midwifery Innovation is committed to maintaining the highest ethical standards in its publication process. All parties involved in the publication process—authors, reviewers, editors, and the publisher—are expected to follow ethical guidelines to ensure the integrity and quality of the published work.
Ethical Responsibilities of Authors:
-
Originality and Plagiarism: Authors must ensure that the work submitted is original, and that proper attribution is given for any work or ideas not their own. Plagiarism in any form is unacceptable and may result in rejection of the manuscript.
-
Authorship: All individuals listed as authors must have made a significant contribution to the research and manuscript preparation. All contributors must approve the final version of the manuscript before submission.
-
Conflicts of Interest: Authors must disclose any financial or personal relationships that could influence the content of their manuscript. This includes funding sources, affiliations, and any other conflicts that could be perceived as influencing the research or its findings.
-
Data Fabrication and Falsification: Authors must ensure the accuracy and integrity of the data presented. Any fabrication, falsification, or manipulation of data is strictly prohibited.
-
Ethical Approval: Research involving human participants must have obtained ethical approval from a recognized institutional review board or ethics committee, and authors must include this information in their submission. Informed consent must be obtained for any research involving human subjects.
Ethical Responsibilities of Reviewers:
-
Confidentiality: Reviewers must keep the manuscript and its content confidential and should not use the information from the manuscript for personal advantage.
-
Fair and Constructive Review: Reviewers should assess manuscripts based on their scientific quality, novelty, and relevance to the field. Reviews should be constructive and provide helpful feedback to authors, without bias.
-
Conflict of Interest: Reviewers should not review manuscripts in which they have a conflict of interest. If a conflict exists, they should recuse themselves from reviewing the submission.
-
Timeliness: Reviewers should complete their reviews within the specified time frame and notify the editorial team if they are unable to do so.
Ethical Responsibilities of Editors:
-
Editorial Independence: The editorial team is responsible for making unbiased editorial decisions based solely on the quality, relevance, and significance of the research. Editorial decisions should not be influenced by commercial interests or personal biases.
-
Fair and Transparent Process: Editors must ensure a fair, transparent, and rigorous peer-review process. Manuscripts will be evaluated solely on their merit and scientific rigor.
-
Conflicts of Interest: Editors must disclose any conflicts of interest and recuse themselves from handling manuscripts where they have a potential conflict.
-
Correcting Mistakes: Editors must take prompt action to address any published content that contains significant errors or misleading information. If errors or misconduct are identified after publication, the editor will work with authors to correct the record through errata, retractions, or other means.
Ethical Responsibilities of the Publisher:
-
Integrity of the Journal: The publisher is committed to ensuring the integrity and quality of the journal. This includes upholding ethical standards, preventing conflicts of interest, and addressing any allegations of misconduct.
-
Transparency in Funding: The publisher will disclose any financial or institutional support received by the journal and ensure that the editorial independence is not compromised by such support.
-
Handling Allegations of Misconduct: The publisher will take all necessary steps to investigate any allegations of research misconduct, including plagiarism, data fabrication, and falsification, and take appropriate action when necessary.
Handling Allegations of Misconduct:
If any ethical issues arise, such as allegations of plagiarism, data falsification, or unethical conduct, the editorial team will follow the guidelines established by reputable bodies like the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) to investigate and resolve the matter. Possible actions may include retraction, correction, or clarification of the publication, depending on the severity of the issue.
